W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high quality, heritage-inspired garments for women - with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converting shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops & artisans.
Introducing the new Spring/Summer '24 Collection: Pawai Paratroopers - a celebration of Thailand's first group of female paratroopers, whose motto was "to prove that women can do anything as well as a man, no matter what affair. Whatever the task, be it on land, in water, or in the air." (Paratrooper Ampai Sombat, Freedom Magazine 1961). Through their action, these women became cultural figureheads of radical change during the 1960s, inspiring new attitudes towards women and social progress throughout Thailand.
The Naa Shirt is a cropped, sleeveless button up with a slightly boxy fit and rounded collar. Cut with a simple five button placket, the front also features two utility pockets, while the back is constructed with a clean, one-piece design. Not much to add beyond that, it's a simple yet exceptional warm weather piece, with a surprising amount of layering potential and stylistic versatility.
It's made from a lightweight Japanese cotton ripstop fabric with a relaxed drape and breezy feel. It's finished with a Japanese indigo dye, imbuing the garment with a rich blue color that will gradually fade over time as the indigo particles separate from the cotton yarns.
